TRADE REFERENCE | REVIEWED FOR PARTS-REQUEST CONTEXT

BRAND AND PARTS REFERENCE

Geely.
One group name, many application questions.

Why a Geely parts request needs more than a familiar badge or a general brand name.

FROM ZHEJIANG TO AUTOMOTIVE

A long history does not make parts interchangeable.

Geely’s official history traces the business to Zhejiang in 1986 and states that its automotive business began in 1997. Its growth into a broader automotive group is relevant to sourcing because a group name can cover distinct vehicle programmes, brands, markets and supplier chains. The useful aftermarket conclusion is not that components are shared; it is the opposite: the exact vehicle and the exact part number must lead the review.

When a customer says “Geely part,” first establish whether that refers to the vehicle badge, a specific model family or a separate brand under a wider group. An overseas badge, local model name or distributor description may not match the domestic China name used in a catalogue.

TURN A NAME INTO A REQUEST

Four fields to record before searching.

01

Brand and full model

Photograph the rear badge or registration information and state the complete model designation. Do not rely on a shortened sales name.

02

Market of first sale

Country and original market help distinguish export naming, regional equipment and locally supplied variants.

03

Build date and configuration

Production month/year and powertrain type help narrow a request before checking connectors, lamps, trim or electronics.

04

OE number

Copy the full original-equipment reference from the physical part, label or packaging. It is more reliable than a visual search.

A PRACTICAL RULE

Never use group relationships as a parts claim.

Different vehicle brands can share technology, suppliers or platforms, but that does not establish interchangeability for a specific part. A compatible part should be supported by the OE reference and appropriate vehicle data; if those details are unavailable, a qualified workshop should inspect the original component and relevant documentation.

For body, lighting and suspension parts, include the full part photo, side and mounting points. For electronic parts, include the label and connector faces. This avoids treating a group-level story as technical evidence.
