TRADE REFERENCE | REVIEWED FOR PARTS-REQUEST CONTEXT

BRAND AND PARTS REFERENCE

BYD.
Battery roots, vehicle-level precision.

What BYD’s move from battery technology into vehicles means for identifying a replacement part correctly.

FROM BATTERIES TO VEHICLES

Why the origin of the business matters.

BYD was founded in February 1995. Its public materials describe a business built first around rechargeable-battery technology; its automotive operation was subsequently established in 2003. Today, the company presents batteries, electric vehicles and supporting technologies as connected parts of one broader business. For an aftermarket buyer, that history is a useful reminder that an electric vehicle is not simply a conventional car with a different engine: high-voltage, low-voltage, thermal and electronic systems must be identified as a system.

It does not mean that a part can be selected from a brand name or a photo. A request for “a BYD battery part” or “a Song headlamp” may still represent different applications across model series, markets, production updates, sides, connectors and equipment levels.

WHERE ERRORS BEGIN

Four checks that prevent a vague request.

01

Exact model and market

Record the full badge, country of sale and whether the vehicle is a domestic or export specification. Names used overseas can differ from names used in China.

02

Powertrain context

State whether the request concerns a battery-electric, plug-in hybrid or other configuration. Never infer a component solely from exterior appearance.

03

Position and side

For body, lighting, suspension and brake items, confirm left/right, front/rear and the part’s mounting position before quotation.

04

Complete OE reference

Use the original-equipment number from the label, packaging or official workshop documentation as the primary catalogue search key.

FOR HIGH-VOLTAGE REQUESTS

Ask for evidence, not guesses.

High-voltage batteries, controllers, charging equipment and related harnesses should be reviewed by trained personnel using the vehicle data and the complete part label. A clear label photo, connector images, the model/build information and the full OE number make a sourcing review more useful. We do not treat a visual match as proof of compatibility, and this guide does not replace diagnostics, isolation procedures or professional repair guidance.

For ordinary parts too, the same habit improves accuracy: send the OE number, vehicle identity, build month/year, market and photographs showing the full component, plugs and fixing points.
